Things To Do In Pembrokeshire

5 Picturesque Walks In Pembrokeshire's Incredible Countryside

Pembrokeshire is home to some of the most beautiful countryside walks in Wales - and the best part? Many of them start just minutes from Lamphey Court Hotel. From woodland trails and peaceful lily ponds to historic castle loops and secret beach paths, this corner of West Wales is perfect for stretching your legs, soaking up the fresh air, and discovering landscapes that are just as stunning as the coast. Whether you’re here for a weekend getaway or a longer stay, there’s no better way to explore the area than on foot.

We’ve rounded up a few of our favourite picturesque local routes - all easy to get to and packed with views worth walking for…

Carew Castle & Tidal Mill Walk
📍 Start Point: SA70 8SL
🚗 Drive Time: 10 minutes
🕒 Distance: 3 miles (circular)

This gentle loop around the historic Carew Castle takes you past one of Wales’ only restored tidal mills and along the quiet Carew River. It’s mostly flat, making it ideal for a relaxed afternoon walk, and there’s plenty of local wildlife and medieval architecture to admire along the way.

Stackpole Estate to Barafundle Bay
📍 Start Point: SA71 5DE (Stackpole Quay Car Park)
🚗 Drive Time: 15 minutes
🕒 Distance: Approx. 4 miles (round trip)

One of Pembrokeshire’s most iconic walks. Starting at the National Trust’s Stackpole Estate, this route winds through woodland and along the coast, before opening up to Barafundle Bay - a picture-perfect, golden beach that’s often voted one of the best in the UK. Expect a few steep steps, but the views are worth every one.

Pembroke Castle & Mill Pond Walk
📍 Start Point: SA71 4LA
🚗 Drive Time: 10 minutes
🕒 Distance: 2 miles (circular)

This is a lovely, easy-access walk that combines history and nature. Begin at Pembroke Castle - birthplace of Henry VII - and follow the footpath around the peaceful mill pond. The reflections of the castle in the water are especially beautiful at sunset, and it’s a great one for families.

Bosherston Lily Ponds & Broad Haven South
📍 Start Point: SA71 5DN
🚗 Drive Time: 15 minutes
🕒 Distance: Approx. 1.5 miles (each way)

Tranquil, flat, and perfect for a slower pace. The walk begins at the National Trust car park in Bosherston and follows a path across bridges and along lakes covered in lilies (best seen in summer). It ends with the reward of Broad Haven South - a wide, sandy beach that’s perfect for a picnic or paddle.

Cleddau River Circular Walk (Landshipping)
📍 Start Point: SA67 8BE
🚗 Drive Time: 20 minutes
🕒 Distance: 5 miles (loop)

For something a little more off the beaten path, head to Landshipping for a scenic riverside loop along the Eastern Cleddau. You’ll walk through peaceful woodlands, open fields, and waterside paths, spotting birds and maybe even otters if you’re lucky. A great choice for nature lovers and more confident walkers.

Wherever you choose to explore, don’t forget your walking boots and a camera - Pembrokeshire has a way of turning even the simplest walk into something special. And when you're done, there’s always the spa or a cosy meal waiting back at the hotel.
