The Perfect Two Day Itinerary

A Weekend in Pembrokeshire

Some places are worth more than a day trip.

Pembrokeshire is one of them. A county with so much going on - coastline, castles, beaches, food, wildlife and some of the most dramatic landscapes in the UK - that arriving, having a quick look around and leaving again feels like a missed opportunity.

A proper weekend in Pembrokeshire is a different thing entirely. Two days to actually breathe it in, explore at your own pace and come back feeling like you went somewhere worth going.

And the best place to base yourself for all of it? Lamphey Court Hotel & Spa.

Why Pembrokeshire for a Weekend Away?

Pembrokeshire consistently tops lists of the most beautiful places in the UK - and with good reason.

The coastline alone is world class. Barafundle Bay has been compared to the Caribbean. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path stretches 186 miles of dramatic clifftops, hidden coves and sweeping sea views. And the beaches - Tenby, Manorbier, Freshwater East, Saundersfoot - are the kind that make you wonder why you ever bother going abroad.

But it is not just the coast. Ancient castles, charming harbour towns, wildlife that includes puffins on Skomer Island and seals along the shoreline - Pembrokeshire is one of those places that keeps giving the more time you spend in it.

A weekend here is the perfect amount of time to get a proper taste of it all.

Where to Stay

Before we get into the itinerary, a word on where to base yourself.

Lamphey Court Hotel & Spa sits on the edge of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park - a four-star Georgian mansion with 39 individually styled rooms, a full luxury spa and a kitchen that takes locally sourced Pembrokeshire ingredients seriously.

It is the kind of hotel that sets the tone for the whole weekend. You arrive, your shoulders drop and the break actually begins.

Day One - Arrive, Explore and Settle In

Check in to Lamphey Court and take a moment to appreciate where you are. The grounds are beautiful, the hotel is stunning and next door sits a medieval Bishop's Palace that adds a genuinely unique piece of history to the setting.

Once you are settled, head out and make the most of the afternoon.

Manorbier Beach is about 15 minutes from the hotel - a beautiful sandy bay with a medieval castle sitting on the headland above it. It is one of Pembrokeshire's most underrated beaches and perfect for a first afternoon walk to stretch your legs after the journey.

If you have more energy, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path is accessible from several points nearby and even a short stretch along the clifftops will remind you exactly why people travel from all over the UK to walk it.

Come back to the hotel as the evening draws in, get changed and head to dinner.

Day One Evening - Dinner at Lamphey Court

The Georgian Room and the Conservatory are two of the most beautiful dining rooms in Pembrokeshire - and the food does full justice to both settings.

Seasonal menus built around locally sourced ingredients, a kitchen that genuinely cares about what ends up on your plate and an atmosphere that makes the evening feel like a proper occasion. Whether you choose the intimate Georgian Room or the light-filled Conservatory, dinner at Lamphey Court is the kind of meal that makes you want to linger just a little longer.

Day Two Morning - Breakfast and the Spa

Wake up to a full Welsh breakfast - cooked fresh, generous and exactly what a weekend morning should feel like.

Then head to the spa.

The spa at Lamphey Court is one of the finest in West Wales - a 14-metre infinity pool, herbal sauna, aromatic steam room and spa bath. Spend the morning here and you will leave feeling genuinely restored. If you want to add a treatment - a massage, a facial or a manicure - the therapy team will take care of everything.

There is no better way to spend a Saturday morning in Pembrokeshire.

Day Two - More Pembrokeshire on the Doorstep

After the spa, head out and explore a little more.

Bosherston Lily Ponds are about 15 minutes from the hotel - a hidden National Trust gem that comes alive in late spring and early summer with water lilies covering the surface of three interconnected lakes. Quiet, beautiful and completely peaceful.

Carew Castle and Tidal Mill is another brilliant option - a stunning ruined castle on the estuary with a working tidal mill right on its doorstep. About 10 minutes from Lamphey Court and well worth an hour of your time.

And if you want to end the weekend on a high, Saundersfoot is a charming harbour village with great independent cafes and a beach worth a final walk along before heading home.
