Tenby

Tenby is the kind of town that families fall in love with and keep coming back to year after year.

Home to one of the largest puffin colonies in the world, Skomer is a National Nature Reserve just off the Pembrokeshire coast. Between April and July, thousands of puffins nest on the island - and the boat trip from Martin's Haven gives you the chance to see them up close in a way that is genuinely extraordinary.

Alongside the puffins, Skomer is home to grey seals, razorbills, guillemots and a huge variety of other wildlife. It is the kind of experience that gets children genuinely excited about nature - and that tends to stick with them.

Boat trips to Skomer are popular and booking well in advance is essential, especially in summer. But if you can get a place, it is one of the most special days out in Wales.

Pembrokeshire Coast Path

Not all family walks need to be long ones.

The Pembrokeshire Coast Path stretches 186 miles along some of the most dramatic coastline in the UK - but there are plenty of shorter stretches that are perfectly suited to families with young children. The walk from Stackpole Quay to Barafundle Bay is relatively flat and rewarding. The stretch near St Govan's Chapel offers dramatic scenery and the extraordinary sight of a medieval chapel built directly into the cliffs. And the paths around Manorbier give great views of the beach and castle below.

Even a short walk along the clifftops with the sea stretching out in front of you is enough to remind everyone why people travel from all over the UK to walk this coast. And children tend to rise to the occasion when the scenery is this good.
