Why There's No Better Place to Be

Things to Do in Pembrokeshire This Spring

There’s a particular kind of magic to Pembrokeshire in spring.

The crowds haven’t arrived yet. The coastline is waking up after winter. The days are getting longer and that fresh, clean coastal air, the kind that fills your lungs and makes everything feel a little clearer, is at its very best right now.

If you’ve been thinking about a trip to Pembrokeshire, spring is genuinely one of the best times to do it. And if you’re looking for the perfect base to explore everything this corner of Wales has to offer, Lamphey Court Hotel & Spa is right at the heart of it.

Why Spring is the Best Time to Visit Pembrokeshire

Pembrokeshire is beautiful year-round, but spring has a quiet magic that the other seasons can’t quite match.

The beaches are golden and largely crowd-free. The countryside is bursting into life. The coastal path is at its most dramatic. And the whole county has that feeling of waking up and opening its doors again after winter.

Come in July and you’ll share the coast with half of the UK. Come in April or May and Pembrokeshire feels like it’s almost entirely yours.

The Best Beaches to Visit This Spring

Pembrokeshire is home to some of the most beautiful coastline in the world, and in spring, you get to enjoy it without fighting for a spot on the sand.

Barafundle Bay is the one that stops people in their tracks. Regularly voted one of the best beaches in the UK, it’s a short walk through National Trust woodland onto a sweep of golden sand and crystal clear water. No ice cream vans, no crowds, just the beach at its most pure and unspoiled.

Tenby is the perfect contrast, pastel-coloured buildings, wide sandy beaches and a harbour town that’s as charming in spring as it is in summer. North Beach and South Beach are both brilliant for families, and the town itself has great cafés and independent shops to explore.

Freshwater East is the quieter option, a tucked-away bay with calm waters and a relaxed atmosphere that makes it ideal for a morning walk or a post-breakfast paddle.

All three are within a 20-minute drive of Lamphey Court.

Get Active on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path

If you love walking, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path needs to be on your list.

Stretching 186 miles along some of the most dramatic coastline in Britain, it takes in clifftops, hidden coves, sweeping bays and sea views that genuinely take your breath away. Spring is arguably the best time to walk it, the weather is mild, the wildflowers are out and the path is quiet enough to actually enjoy.

You don’t need to tackle the whole thing. Even a short stretch from St Govan’s Head or around the headlands near Tenby gives you a taste of what makes this path so special. Lace up your boots, pick a section and let Pembrokeshire do the rest.

History and Heritage, Castles and Landmarks

Pembrokeshire isn’t just about the coastline. The county has a genuinely remarkable history, and spring is a brilliant time to explore it.

Pembroke Castle is one of the finest medieval castles in Wales and sits just minutes from Lamphey Court. The birthplace of Henry VII, it’s dramatic in scale and fascinating in history, the kind of place that sparks the imagination for all ages.

Carew Castle and Tidal Mill is another gem worth visiting, a stunning ruined castle with a working tidal mill right on its doorstep, set against a beautiful estuary backdrop.

And right next door to Lamphey Court itself sits the medieval Bishop’s Palace, thought to be the place where Henry VII was conceived. History really doesn’t get much closer than that.

Wildlife and Nature This Spring

Spring is one of the best times of year for wildlife in Pembrokeshire, and there are experiences here that you simply won’t find anywhere else in the UK.

Skomer Island, just off the Pembrokeshire coast, is home to one of the largest puffin colonies in the world. From late April onwards, thousands of puffins return to the island to breed, and a boat trip out to see them is one of the most memorable wildlife experiences in Britain. Booking early is essential as places fill up fast.

Colby Woodland Garden is another spring highlight, a hidden National Trust gem that comes alive with bluebells and wildflowers from April onwards. Quiet, beautiful and completely peaceful.

Along the coastline, grey seals are a common sight throughout the year, and spring often brings dolphin and porpoise sightings in the waters around the Pembrokeshire coast.
